History
The Crane Dance is a traditional ethnic dance that originated in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and has been introduced to China for over a century. Currently, the Crane Dance is widely performed in the Korean autonomous prefecture in Northeast China’s Jilin province.
Features
The style of the Korean ethnic Crane Dance is simple, gentle and graceful, with its movements and rhythm clearly mimicking the form of a crane.
During the performance, dancers dress as cranes and imitate the bird's leisurely posture, along with actions such as neck stretching, pecking for fish and wing movements, while dancing around lotus flowers.
Cultural Significance
The Crane Dance is the only bird-mask dance in Korean folk dance. It reflects local people's deep reverence for the crane, as well as their pursuit of beauty. Currently, this traditional dance is in danger of extinction, which urgently needs preservation and protection.
